Lakers guard has interesting pushback on NBA’s in-season tournament

The NBA's decision to run an in-season tournament has come with a mixture of praise, excitement, confusion and pushback. Essentially any response you could imagine a fan, analyst or player giving has probably been put out in the universe at some point while discussing it.

But recently-signed Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent may have had one of the most interesting points while discussing the concept of the in-season tournament. Although the idea of it is interesting and helps during a bit of a slower sense, Vincent pointed to the league's decision on how to approach the reward for the winners as being a bit head-scratching.

Vincent joined 'The Old Man and the Three' with JJ Redick and Tommy Alter, and he was asked about the in-season tournament. Here's what the former Miami Heat guard had to say:

"It does not make the most sense to me. Being quote-unquote best league in the world in terms of basketball, it didn't make sense to me to copy what other leagues were doing. As far as the bonuses too, I know they tried to make it make sense for guys to want to play and compete, which is great, but I think the bonuses will be awesome, especially if my team wins it, I'm looking forward to that. But having made a few deep runs, it didn't make sense to me how the bonus would be more than if you were in the finals," Vincent told Redick. "That takes away from the point of it all, we all play to raise the Larry O'Brien Trophy and to go down that parade and to win and to be called world champion."

It's a fair point from Vincent, and the money would be appealing to most players, but it is tough to argue that there's more compensation to players for winning this tournament than winning the NBA Finals. 

CBS Sports broke down the structure for pay, which includes players on teams that lose in the quarterfinals, semifinals and championships all receiving between $50,000 to $200,000. As for the players on the team that wins it all, they will take home $500,000.
