The Los Angeles Lakers have dealt with a plethora of injuries this season, seeing players come in and out of the lineup all year. It has hurt them on the court, testing their strong depth throughout the roster.
One player who has been out for weeks is center Christian Wood, who has been dealing with a knee injury. The team provided an update on the status of Wood, which can be seen as optimistic about his eventual return.
Wood underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his knee, he is expected to be out for a few weeks. He will be examined in a few weeks, but this surgery will likely take him out for at least the rest of the regular season.
LAKERS MEDICAL UPDATE
— Los Angeles Lakers (@Lakers) March 19, 2024
Lakers forward/center Christian Wood underwent a successful arthroscopic surgical procedure on his left knee today. The procedure was performed by Dr. Kristofer J. Jones at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Further updates will be provided as appropriate.
If the Lakers can reach the postseason, there is a chance that Wood could return. They have lacked a big man who can space the floor since he has been out, so hopefully, he can return at some point.
Wood has played in 50 games this season, averaging 6.9 points and five rebounds per game. It has been a tough year for the veteran center, as he has struggled to fit into the rotation.
He has shot 30.7% from beyond the three-point line, which is the worst he has shot from three since the back end of the 2018-2019 season. However, if they are to get Wood back, he could provide a spark on offense,
Wood can score at will, even if things haven't gone his way yet this season. His ability to space the floor for this team could come in handy, and it can't hurt to have another big man to work with.
