Magic coach Jamahl Mosley agrees to extension
Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

The Orlando Magic announced a four-year extension with head coach Jamahl Mosley on Tuesday.

The extension runs through the 2027-28 season for Mosley, 45, who was hired on July 11, 2021.

The Magic entered Tuesday in fifth place in the Eastern Conference with a 37-28 record -- already a three-win improvement over last season (34-48). Orlando is poised to make the playoffs for the first time since 2019-20.

"Jamahl (Mosley) and his staff have done a tremendous job not only this season, but since we hired him back in 2021," Magic president of operations Jeff Weltman said in a news release. "His preparation, work ethic, ability to connect with the players, and passion he brings to the job every day brings positive results, both on the court and off. We are very happy to have Jamahl lead the Magic for years to come."

Mosley, who was named the East's Coach of the Month for October/November, has an overall record of 93-136 with Orlando.

The Magic rank third in the NBA in scoring defense (109.4 points per game) this season.

Mosley spent seven seasons (2014-21) as an assistant coach with the Dallas Mavericks before joining the Magic. He was also an assistant coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers (2010-14) and worked with the Denver Nuggets from 2005-10.
