Magic Coach Jamahl Mosley Signs Contract Through 2027-28

The Orlando Magic have taken a significant step towards solidifying their resurgence by extending Coach Jamahl Mosley’s contract through the 2027-28 NBA season, as announced on Tuesday.

Magic President of Basketball Operations, Jeff Weltman, praised Mosley’s impact since his inception as coach in 2021, highlighting his dedication, work ethic, and ability to forge strong connections with his players. Weltman expressed his enthusiasm about Mosley’s continued leadership, emphasizing the positive influence he has both on and off the court.

“Jamahl and his staff have done a tremendous job not only this season, but since we hired him back in 2021,” Magic president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman said in a statement. “His preparation, work ethic, ability to connect with the players, and passion he brings to the job every day brings positive results, both on the court and off. We are very happy to have Jamahl lead the Magic for years to come.”

Under the guidance of 45-year-old Mosley, the Magic have experienced a noteworthy revival, boasting a 37-28 record and clinching the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference standings so far this season. This agreement was finalized on Monday night between Weltman and Mosley’s agent, as reported by ESPN.

Since his appointment three years ago by Weltman, Mosley has spearheaded a transformative overhaul of the Magic’s roster. Centered around dynamic forwards Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, this strategic realignment has propelled the Magic towards the echelons of the conference elite.

The Magic have seen a consistent increase in their win count under Mosley’s tenure, marking a significant progression from 34 wins in the 2023-2024 season to 37 victories thus far in the current campaign. Orlando has solidifed itself as one of the NBA’s premier defensive teams, while continuing to beenfit from progression in player development.

Mosley joined the Magic in 2021, bringing valuable experience from his time with the Dallas Mavericks under Rick Carlisle, as well as from his roles with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Denver Nuggets. His recent assignment as the head coach of the Team USA select team in the summer of 2023 further underscores his growing reputation in the basketball community.
