MarJon Beauchamp leaves early vs. Raptors with sprained ankle; evaluation of injury set to be conducted
USA TODAY Sports

While they handily picked up a 128-112 road victory against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday, the shorthanded Milwaukee Bucks sustained another possible critical absence as MarJon Beauchamp left the matchup prematurely.

Beauchamp was seen limping off the court as he made his way back to the team’s locker room. A few moments later, the Bucks announced that he would not return to the game due to a sprained right ankle.

The second-year man finished the night with four points and an assist in 10 minutes of play.

MJB’s current injury status

After their wire-to-wire finish against the Raptors in Scotiabank Arena, head coach Adrian Griffin has confirmed that Beauchamp suffered from a sprained ankle. While he can’t provide the severity of the injury yet, Griffin announced that the 23-year-old is set to undergo an immediate evaluation.

“[It’s a] right ankle sprain. I haven’t spoken to anyone, but I know he’ll be evaluated tonight and tomorrow.”

Assessing MarJon’s probable absence

Beauchamp’s sudden ankle injury leaves another concerning hole in Milwaukee’s already gutted depth chart. While the severity of the injury remains a question, it should be pointed out that a potential inactivity of play is now on the table for the promising swingman.

The Bucks have entered the Raptors’ territory without Giannis Antetokounmpo due to a right calf strain. Jae Crowder, who has been the Bucks’ best role player to start this season, is just set to start his eight-week healing stage off surgery (adductor and abdominal tear). Milwaukee is already experiencing a lack of size and versatility, and Beauchamp’s riddled condition may just worsen their wing presence.

For now, it seems guaranteed that the Bucks will continue leaning on Andre Jackson Jr. for more minutes and increased load. The 22-year-old rookie enjoyed his first official game start against the Raptors, logging two boards and an assist in 17 minutes of play. Meanwhile, Thanasis Antetokounmpo was inserted as early as the first frame and ended up with 2 points in 15 total minutes of play.
