NBA Insider Details The Markieff Morris Nets Contract
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Brooklyn Nets are attempting to get over a very rocky offseason and focus on the upcoming year and the success it could bring.

They haven’t made a lot of changes during the summer.

In fact, their entire goal during the last few months has been to not change, and hold onto their biggest stars.

But they have signed a few other deals that could be important to the team moving forward.

The team recently signed Markieff Morris to a one-year deal.

Keith Smith has received the specifics of the signing: it is non-guaranteed.

Morris will get $500,000 guaranteed if he’s not waived before opening night of the season.

That total goes up to one million dollars guaranteed on December 10, and fully guaranteed on league-wide date of January 10.

What will Morris do for the team in the months ahead?

Keef In Brooklyn

Morris is a 32-year-old, 6-foot-8 power forward who was an unrestricted free agent.

He played for the Heat last season but only participated in 17 games due to injury.

During his 17.5 minutes on the floor last year, Morris put up 7.6 points and 2.6 rebounds.

That’s a bit down from his career average of 10.9 points a game.

Obviously, the Nets will want Morris to look more like his older self and they will be coming to him for some strong assistance from the bench.

Don’t expect to see him start in many games but he could be a closer during close games.

Brooklyn wants to improve every aspect of the lineup and beef up both the front and backcourt.

Morris could play a part in increasing the team’s defense and making them tougher in the paint.
