NBA Legend Makes Bold Claim About Anthony Edwards
Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Coming into the 2024 NBA Playoffs, the Minnesota Timberwolves were not getting much respect. Despite battling for a top seed in the Western Conference all season, they were viewed as underdogs heading into their first-round series with the Phoenix Suns by many people.

Not that they needed more, but that assuredly provided the Timberwolves with a little extra motivation heading into Game 1. It was used to their advantage, as they blew out the Suns, winning 120-95.

It was another incredible performance by Anthony Edwards, who scored a game-high 33 points. He went 14-of-24 from the field, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range, with nine rebounds, six assists and two steals for a very strong stat line.

Edwards was going viral on social media after the game for some of the exchanges he had with Suns players. He was relentlessly trash-talking Kevin Durant and made sure to take some pokes at Devin Booker as well.

You don’t want to poke the bear, but Edwards seems supremely confident in himself and his team to get the job done on the court. Their Game 1 performance was a convincing one, which drew the attention of a lot of people.

One person who came away impressed is former NBA superstar Paul Pierce. While making an appearance on UNDISPUTED on FS1, Pierce spoke very highly of Edwards, as he believes the Timberwolves star is embracing being the new face of the league.

“We might be seeing a changing of the guard right in front of us,” Pierce said.

Edwards is one of the young superstars in the NBA that could become the face of the new era. With veterans such as Durant, Stephen Curry and LeBron James nearing the end of their careers, someone has to take the torch from them and Edwards seems like a logical candidate.

If Minnesota can advance in the 2024 NBA Playoffs, Edwards’ star is only going to grow. He has everything you want in a superstar player, oozing confidence and bravado on the court while helping his team to victories.
