Report: Kings a 'Possible Suitor' for Hawks' Clint Capela
Kyle Ross-USA TODAY Sports

The Sacramento Kings have headlined many trade rumors over the past month, specifically around Washington Wizards' Kyle Kuzma, Toronto Raptors' Pascal Siakam, and Chicago Bulls' Zach LaVine. With the trade deadline less than a month away, the Kings are now reportedly involved in another unexpected player.

Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints reports that the Kings are one of many teams linked to Atlanta Hawks big man Clint Capela.

Frustrations stemming from their lack of success continue to mount in Atlanta, leaving the Hawks' front office open to virtually all offers coming their way. For Capela, an influx of playoff-contending teams have already begun to show a level of interest, with the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, and Sacramento Kings named as possible suitors for the veteran center, sources said.

Capela would be an interesting fit in Sacramento alongside All-Star center Domantas Sabonis. Many fans believe Sabonis would be more effective in a power forward role, similar to how he played next to Myles Turner in his time for the Indiana Pacers.

While it would be a fun experiment to play Sabonis at power forward next to Capela, being locked into the experiment for $45 million through the next two years would not be ideal, especially if it does not work out as expected.

Capela, 29, averages 11.3 points and 10.5 rebounds this season while leading the NBA in 4.8 offensive rebounds per game. Capela is an impressive interior presence and one of the best rebounders in the league, but Sacramento already has a significantly better and more versatile version of him in Sabonis.

There are problems within the Kings' lineup, but the center position is not one of them. Hopefully, Siegel's report is just a rumor with no traction because the Kings giving up valuable assets for Capela would be detrimental. The Kings need to target either a stretch four or a 3-and-D wing to truly improve the lineup, not a one-dimensional big man.
