Report: Spurs Expected To Trade Doug McDermott
Daniel Dunn-USA TODAY Sports

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the San Antonio Spurs are expected to trade Doug McDermott this season.

McDermott and Cedi Osman are two veterans that the Spurs have made available before the February 8 trade deadline, per Stein.

“Doug McDermott and Cedi Osman are two veterans that the Spurs have made available before the Feb. 8 deadline — with both players (McDermott at $13.8 million at Osman at $6.7 million) on expiring contracts,” Stein wrote. “The Spurs could have traded McDermott last season but decided, in the end, against parting ways. A trade before this season’s deadline, sources say, is much more likely.”

McDermott is averaging 6.4 points, 1.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.3 steals and 0.1 blocks this season while shooting 46.1% from the field, 46.8% from beyond the arc and 66.7% from the free-throw line. He’s making $13.8 million in the final year of his contract.

McDermott is third in the NBA in 3-point field goal percentage. Several contenders are interested in the veteran due to his 3-point shooting skills.

The Spurs are expected to be sellers at the NBA trade deadline since they are in 15th place in the Western Conference standings. San Antonio is 7-31 and will miss the playoffs for the fifth straight season.

McDermott has career averages of 9.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.2 steals and 0.1 blocks with the Chicago Bulls, Oklahoma City Thunder, New York Knicks, Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers and Spurs. Among active players, he’s seventh in career 3-point field goal percentage.
