Ish Smith is coming off a year where he played for the  Denver Nuggets

The 35-year-old point guard averaged 2.5 points, 1.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest while shooting 39.7% from the field in 43 regular season games.

He also appeared in four NBA playoff games, as the Nuggets won the 2023 NBA Championship over the Miami Heat

This summer, Smith became a free agent, and he still remains available to be signed by any team in the league on October 20.

Should The San Antonio Spurs Sign Ish Smith?

The Spurs are coming off a season where they were the 15th seed in the Western Conference with a 22-60 record.

They missed the NBA playoffs for the fourth straight season, but there is a lot of excitement around the team because they drafted Victor Wembanyama with the first pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

However, they do not have a lot of point guard depth on the roster, so Smith could be an excellent addition to their bench.

In addition to their lack of point guards, the Spurs only have one player (Doug McDermott) who has played more than six seasons in the NBA.

Smith has played 13 seasons for the Nuggets, Pistons, Wizards, 76ers, Suns, Magic, Hornets, Thunder, Rockets, Pelicans, Bucks, Grizzlies and Warriors.

Therefore, the former Wake Forest star could be an excellent mentor for the young players on the team.

At this point, Smith could likely be signed for a veteran's minimum deal, so there would be no risk for the Spurs (or any team) to sign him.

The Spurs will play their first game of the regular season on October 25 against the Dallas Mavericks (at home).
