Spurs owner assures fans in letter that team isn't leaving San Antonio

San Antonio Spurs owner Peter J. Holt attempted to quell rumors that a relocation could be on the horizon for the franchise and promised fans on Tuesday that San Antonio is the team's long-term home.

Last week, the Spurs received approval from Bexar County to play four home games outside of their home arena, AT&T Center, during the 2022-23 season. According to The Athletic, the Spurs will play two games in Austin, Texas, one in Mexico City and one in the Alamodome. The team also has plans for games to be played in Austin and Mexico City during the 2023-24 season as well.

Holt assured fans that doesn't mean the Spurs are looking for a new home.

"My family became involved in the Spurs in the 90s because there was a real threat that the team would be moved," the letter reads, in part. "We would not let that happen then and we will not let that happen now."

Peter J. Holt is the son of Peter M. Holt, who purchased a minority stake in the Spurs in 1993. The elder Holt became the CEO and chairman of the team in 1996 when he became the majority shareholder. In 2016, he retired, and his wife Julianna took over as CEO. Peter J. Holt then took over as managing partner in 2021.
