Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama Led NBA In This Wild Stat

The 2023-24 NBA regular season was a historic one for San Antonio Spurs rookie center Victor Wembanyama. He accomplished things in his first season in the NBA that established stars and Hall of Fame players weren’t achieving during their illustrious careers.

The runaway favorite for the Rookie of the Year Award, Wembanyama wasted little time adjusting to life in the NBA. Usually, it takes some time for young players to acclimate themselves, especially big men, but Wembanyama hit the ground running.

The Spurs had a plan in place for him in his first NBA campaign and it was executed flawlessly. His workload on the court was increased throughout the season, helping keep him fresh and not worn down as young players normally do during their rookie seasons.

Seemingly every night that Wembanyama took the court he was breaking a record or achieving a stat line that had never been seen previously. He led the NBA in blocks with 3.6 per game and 254 total.

Given his length and basketball IQ, it was not surprising to see Wembanyama be a dominant force defensively and lead the league in blocks. What was shocking was the other statistic in which he led the NBA.

According to Legion Hoops on X, via StatMamba, Wembanyama also led the NBA in step-back 3-point shooting percentage during the 2023-24 season. He connected on 46.2 percent of such shot attempts, a truly eye-popping number.
