Suns, Grayson Allen Agree To Massive Contract Extension
Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

The Phoenix Suns were narrowly able to escape the NBA Play-In Tournament in the Western Conference, finishing in the No. 6 seed. That has them matched up in the first round with the Minnesota Timberwolves as their opponent.

While being that low in the standings certainly wasn’t what many people were expecting from the Suns this season, they are happy to be where they are. One of the players who found a lot of success with the team this season was Grayson Allen.

In his first season with the Suns, Allen averaged 13.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. His efficiency was elite as he made 49.9 percent of his shots overall and 46.1 percent from 3-point range, which led the NBA.

Phoenix liked what they saw so much, that they announced a massive contract extension for Allen. On Monday morning, NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium revealed the Suns and Allen agreed to a four-year extension worth nearly $70 million through the 2027-28 season.

Allen was playing out the final year of a two-year, $18.7 million extension that he originally signed with the Milwaukee Bucks. He was set to hit free agency but that is no longer the case as he is locked into a long-term deal.

While some may believe this is an overpay, based on the rising salary cap in the NBA and what other players who fill a similar role to Allen have received, this is a strong contract for both sides. Allen cashes in after the best season of his career while the Suns retain him without having to battle against other teams in free agency.

Anything can happen during the NBA offseason, as intentions change constantly. That is something Phoenix won’t have to worry about, as another piece of their starting lineup will be staying with the team for the foreseeable future.
