Wolves' Anthony Edwards has unique career goal, and it involves NFL

Anthony Edwards is fast becoming a star in the NBA. The Minnesota Timberwolves guard is charismatic, talented and one of the league's best athletes. However, it would appear that Edwards doesn't envision a long career in the NBA. Instead, he wants to become a two-sport star and sees himself eventually transitioning to the NFL.

"I'm gonna try [to transition to the NFL]. First, I gotta handle my business in the NBA," Edwards said. "As a team, Minnesota organization, we want to win a championship. And after that, we'll figure that out."

Edwards, 22, is still in the early stages of his NBA career. He has all the tools to become an All-NBA talent and one of the best players in the world. However, he will only reach those heights if he commits to the grind and removes any notions of potentially switching sports in the future.

The NFL is far more physical, and careers are generally shorter. Edwards could be shaving off years of earning potential if he decides to make the switch.

In terms of physical ability, there is no doubt Edwards could become a high-level running back in the NFL. He would also be only the third player to make the jump from one league to the other, joining Otto Graham and Bud Grant. Perhaps Edwards is drawn by the potential to make history, especially if he believes he can become a two-sport champion.

Nevertheless, there's a chance the Timberwolves star opts to remain in the NBA for the duration of his career. He's slowly climbing toward the upper echelon of NBA players and is loved in the city of Minnesota.

If Edwards is driven by legacy, he has every opportunity to create a lasting one right where he is without the need to jump ship to a whole new sport.
