'All Star' rock band snubs 49ers' Trey Lance

The American rock band Smash Mouth is evidently not a believer in San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance.

The famous 90s group that sang classics such as "All Star" and "Walkin' on the Sun" posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, on Monday afternoon and opined that the Niners had a "very solid" group of quarterbacks. Lance, however, was noticeably absent from the list.

Assuming full health, Brock Purdy has taken hold of San Francisco's starting gig after his magical run in 2022, while Lance and fellow former No. 3 overall pick Sam Darnold are battling for the backup gig. Brandon Allen, who will turn 31 in September and has played in 15 career games (nine starts) is currently lined up as the fourth-stringer on the projected depth chart.

It's not clear whether the official account of Smash Mouth posted the message without Lance's name simply because they aren't a fan of him, or because they foresee a trade coming.

The North Dakota State product has returned from last year's broken ankle that ended his season in Week 2 and had a solid preseason debut on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, despite his team falling 34-7. Lance finished the game 10-for-15 with 112 passing yards and one touchdown and no interceptions for a 111.0 passer rating but took four sacks for 18 yards as well.

Purdy didn't play in the preseason opener, while Darnold went 5-for-8 for 84 yards and a 97.9 passer rating and Allen was 5-for-8 for 36 yards and one interception, posting a 33.3 passer rating.
