Amazon was willing to offer Sean McVay $20M per year to be an announcer?

Sean McVay rejected the chance to leave coaching to do television work, but that decision probably was not down to money.

McVay confirmed Friday that he would return as Los Angeles Rams coach in 2022 despite persistent rumors linking him to a broadcasting career. A new report indicates that there must have been something to those rumors, though. McVay and Amazon were scheduled to meet next week to discuss potential terms, according to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post.

Marchand reported that Amazon was willing to put forth a ridiculous figure to try to tempt McVay into broadcasting. Amazon was reportedly willing to consider going as high as $20 million a year for five years in talks with the Rams coach.

Amazon is taking over the rights to “Thursday Night Football” starting in 2022 and has been eyeing high-profile names to call those games. Their apparent first choice went elsewhere, and other attempts to lure top figures out of jobs within the NFL have proved to be unsuccessful.

What is clear is that TV networks are willing to put up big money to land big names. Whoever Amazon does ultimately get is almost certainly going to be very highly compensated.
