The Chicago Bears have a need in the secondary. After releasing Eddie Jackson last month, the Bears are exploring free agency to fill the void in his wake. Although NFL free agency doesn't begin until Wednesday, March 13, teams are already starting to meet with players and begin negotiations.

According to NFL Insider, Ian Rapoport, free-agent safety, Kevin Byard, paid the Bears a visit after his time with the Philadelphia Eagles came to an end.

Who Is Kevin Byard?

The Tennessee Titans selected Kevin Byard 64th overall in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft. The Middle Tennessee State product never missed a game for the Titans in eight years.

Byard made two Pro Bowls in 2017 and 2021 and was also nominated All-Pro in both seasons. The 30-year-old safety recorded 27 interceptions for the Titans — having a career-best eight picks in 2017.

Byard returned one interception for a touchdown, forced three fumbles, recovered another four fumbles — one of which he scored on — and recorded nearly 750 tackles in his career.

Kevin Byard is the exemplar of health and consistency throughout his career, never missing a game and producing on the field.

The Chicago Bears could use a veteran leader in the secondary like Byard and it wouldn't be surprising to see him locked up to a multi-year deal.
