Braelon Allen Makes Bold Promise to Jets Starting QB Aaron Rodgers

Responding to a video breakdown from Joe Blewett of Jets X-Factor, highlighting his pass protection prowess as a member of the Wisconsin Badgers, Allen is poised to play a crucial role in the Jets’ offense. 

Braelon Allen and the Jets Need to Keep Aaron Rodgers Upright 

Protecting Rodgers has become a top priority for the Jets in 2024 for obvious reasons, with general manager Joe Douglas rebuilding the offensive line during the offseason and securing three new starters through strategic moves in free agency and trades.

Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic underlined Allen’s pass-blocking chops in an article published on April 29, mentioning that he thinks the former Wisconsin Badgers tailback can, at minimum, “take on a role as a pass protector and short yardage back as a rookie, with potential for more.” 

During his three seasons with the Wisconsin football team, Braelon Allen was leaned on as the Badgers’ workhorse. When Allen declared early to become the youngest player in the 2024 draft pool, he left having totaled 3,494 career rushing yards while adding 35 touchdowns.

Although his Pro Football Focus pass-blocking grades leave something to be desired, finishing with poor marks of 34.5, 40.3, and 30.0, respectively, it was clear that Allen made strides last season under Devon Spalding. 

“Very physical, downhill,” Braelon Allen said when describing his running style. “I try to punish defenders, create contact, more than take it and absorb it. So that is what I bring to the Jets, physical downhill runner, more than willing in pass protection and also able to run routes and catch the ball fairly well as well. So, I think I am a well-rounded back that is bigger than most. It is a little different than what a lot of people are getting.”

It appears that the Jets’ brass is quite high on the addition of the latest Wisconsin Badgers running back who has made it to the NFL and sees a clear path to getting Allen onto the field as a rookie. Let’s hope he makes good on that promise to protect Aaron Rodgers and prolong his Hall-of-Fame career.
