Buffalo Bills OL Free Agents: Rodger Saffold, David Quessenberry, & More
Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Continuing on with this lengthy Buffalo Bills free agents list, we move to the OL. Rodger Saffold, David Quessenberry, Ike Boettger, Greg Van Roten, Bobby Hart, and Justin Murray are free agents. Saffold and Quessenberry were the big free agent additions to the OL. And well, didn’t really produce as much as people hoped. The guard and tackle positions still left fans wanting more, and were the downfall of the offensive line . Quessenberry rotated with Spencer Brown at RT, as well as filling in at guard when players went down with an injury.

The backup guys, Ike Boettger, Bobby Hart, and Greg Van Roten didn’t really see too much success when they saw the field either. Hart was mainly an extra lineman in jumbo packages and, depending on who you talk to, wasn’t very good. Ike Boettger didn’t see the field until the end of the year after recovering from an injury he suffered in 2021, but when he did get healthy enough to play, saw very limited snaps. In this article, we’ll focus on a couple of those free agents, Saffold and Quessenberry.

What the fanbase wants

The majority of the fanbase would like to see Rodger Saffold leave in free agency and, considering the production Buffalo got from him, it may not be an awful loss. Spotrac projects his contract to be one year/$5M. At 34 years old, that’s a pretty fair contract.

The Bills also didn’t see great play from David Quessenberry either, who came over from the Tennessee Titans with Rodger Saffold. He was penciled in as the starter for Week 1 after taking the majority of training camp reps at RT for the injured Spencer Brown. But we never really saw a huge improvement over Brown at tackle. Furthermore, that side of the line was consistently the weakest link for Josh Allen and the run game. Letting Quessenberry walk and (hopefully) drafting a competent replacement should be the way to go for Brandon Beane and co.

The Bills’ history of drafting OL

The Buffalo Bills haven’t drafted well recently on the OL, so finding a good guard and tackle in the draft may be a little difficult for them. Considering they’ve drafted Tommy Doyle, Spencer Brown, Cody Ford (traded), Wyatt Teller (traded), Luke Tenuta (cut), and Jack Anderson (cut). IF Brandon Beane can change the course of history and draft a competent player on the OL, Josh may be able to stand upright for longer than five seconds. And, not to mention, they may have a decent run game.

The Buffalo Bills current OL depth

It doesn’t look pretty

Dion Dawkins, Mitch Morse, Ryan Bates, Spencer Brown, and Tommy Doyle are the only O-linemen on the active roster. Buffalo also signed Alec Anderson, Greg Mancz, and Ryan Van Demark to future contracts.
