Hanging up the cleats at 28-years-old, former Arizona Cardinals quarterback David Blough will now embark on a new chapter of his life after his retirement from playing in the NFL.

Joining the revamped coaching staff for the Washington Commanders, Blough has become their assistant quarterbacks coach, confirmed by the team.

Blough gets to work with a former coach of his, Commanders offensive coordinator and ex Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

During the 2022 season in which was Kingsbury’s last in Arizona before being fired, Blough played and started twice, completed 35-of-58 passes for 402 yards and two touchdowns. The Carrollton, Texas native re-signed with the Cardinals last off-season, but was released on Aug. 29, 2023.

Overall, Blough’s NFL career saw him throw for 1,435 yards, six touchdowns and nine interceptions in nine games. He played for the Detroit Lions for three seasons (2019-21) before his short stint with the Cardinals.

Leaving Arizona, Detroit would bring Blough back as a member of their practice squad for the remainder of last season before his contract ran out a month ago.

Kingsbury and Blough will now collaborate from the sidelines to help rejuvenate the Commanders’ offense.

Washington has the third pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, with quarterbacks Drake Maye (UNC) or Caleb Williams (USC) likely available.
