Carson Wentz finally signs with a team, creates 'full-circle QB moment'

It was reported on Tuesday that the Rams have "expressed optimism" that starting quarterback Matthew Stafford will return from his one-game absence due to a thumb injury following the team's Week 10 bye. Los Angeles has lost three straight since a 3-3 start and will host the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 19 in Week 11.

Another notable nugget pointed out by Schefter following the Wentz news shows just how much representation the Rams have had in recent years from the top 10 picks of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Los Angeles will be the fourth team in the last four seasons for Wentz.

The 2017 Pro Bowler's most recent game came in Week 17 on New Year's Day 2023 during the Washington Commanders' 24-10 loss against the Cleveland Browns, which eliminated the group from playoff contention. In his first start in 11 weeks, Wentz finished 16-of-28 for 143 passing yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions, while adding three carries for seven yards and one score.

The 30-year-old missed time last fall with a broken right ring finger and, upon his return to health, had lost the starting job to Taylor Heinicke. 2022 fifth-round draft pick Sam Howell started the team's Week 18 regular-season finale against the Dallas Cowboys and Heinicke served as the backup.

Even though Wentz had two years left on his contract at the conclusion of last season, it didn't include any guaranteed money, and he was released in February.

The North Dakota State product was acquired by Washington in a March trade with the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for multiple draft picks (including a second-rounder). After spending the first five seasons of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, Wentz was traded to the Colts in March 2021, almost exactly one year before he was moved to the Commanders.

Washington went just 2-5 in Wentz's seven starts last season, as he registered a 62.3% completion percentage for 1,755 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
