Chiefs’ Andy Reid Gives Update On Chris Jones Contract Talks
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones is slated to hit free agency next week, and head coach Andy Reid provided an update on where the team stands with him on Thursday.

Well, kind of.

During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Reid was asked about the Chiefs’ contract talks with Jones and was very diplomatic in his response.

“Yeah, well, not a whole lot to share,” Reid told Eisen (via Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports). “We’d love to have him back. Brett Veach and his gang are working through that. Chris Shea works with our cap and does the contracts. So they’re all working through this thing. They’ve had great communication. So, we’ll just see where it goes from here.”

Jones also made a rather cryptic post on his X account on Thursday, uploading a photo of him celebrating the Chiefs’ recent Super Bowl win with the caption “KC…..”

While that may hint at Jones returning to Kansas City this offseason, Reid says we shouldn’t look too much into it.

“Well, that could be taken a couple of different ways,” Reid said. “But I like the dot, dots.”

When pressed by Eisen if that meant there was more to come, Reid still remained tight-lipped.

“I’m hoping, Rich,” Reid said. “I can’t give you anything because I don’t have a whole lot. I’m doing all these media things, so maybe something is going better than I think it is.”

It seems hard to imagine that Reid is that out of the loop when it comes to front office stuff. More than likely, he is just keeping the information in house, which is perfectly understandable.

The Chiefs seem to be preparing to re-sign Jones to a massive contract, which is why they are rumored to be in the process of trying to trade cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, who was also getting set to become a free agent before Kansas City slapped a franchise tag on him.

At this point, it would be surprising if the Chiefs allowed Chris Jones to walk.

Surely, Andy Reid knows that.
