Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes can't believe his autographed rookie card sold for record $4.3 million

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes dethroned Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady — at least in the sports card market.

PWCC Marketplace announced Wednesday that a Mahomes 2017 Panini National Treasures 1-of-1, NFL shield, autographed card sold for $4.3 million, the most ever for a football card.

Mahomes himself couldn't even believe the card sold for that amount, tweeting, "My goodness."

The particular card that sold has the full NFL logo from a Mahomes' game-used jersey, enhancing its uniqueness. The card carries an 8.5 grade from Beckett Grading Services.

The buyer betting on Mahomes is LJ's Card Shop of New Albany, Ohio, according to ESPN. The shop's goal is to "build the best modern-day card collection."

This Mahomes rookie card surpasses the previous record of $3.1 million for a Brady 2000 Playoff Contenders Championship Rookie Ticket Autograph card. It is now the fourth most expensive sports card to date, surpassing a Mike Trout 2009 Superfractor Autograph card that sold for $3.9 million.

A Mickey Mantle 1952 Topps card and a LeBron James 2003-04 Rookie Patch Autograph card are the highest-selling at $5.2 million each. A Luka Doncic 1-of-1 Logoman Autograph card is the second most expensive at $4.6 million.
