Commanders punter had simple request as part of number swap

Jayden Daniels will wear the same number in the NFL that he wore in college at LSU, and you will never believe what the star quarterback had to pay for the jersey.

Veteran punter Tress Way has worn No. 5 with the Washington Commanders since he joined the team in 2014. Typically when a rookie wants a jersey number that is already taken, the incoming player has to pay a handsome sum or make some sort of costly deal. Way did not ask Daniels for much, however.

Instead of having Daniels pay cash for No. 5, Way made a very modest request. Way just wants Daniels to help Way and his family attend an Oklahoma-LSU football game at some point down the road.

Way played in college at Oklahoma. The Sooners are moving from the Big 12 to the SEC next season, so they will face LSU in the future. Daniels should have no problem scoring tickets for Way.

We have already seen one star player pay huge money for a jersey number after being traded this offseason. Way could have made a similar demand to Daniels, but the punter’s generosity toward his new quarterback will probably go a long way in the locker room.
