Could Rams Sign Safety Byard After Being Released by Eagles?
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Rams were in the bottom five teams in the NFL last season in passing yards allowed, and the team should address the secondary as a result.

An opportunity presented itself recently, as the Philadelphia Eagles announced on Friday that they were planning on releasing safety Kevin Byard, making him a free agent. His tenure with the Eagles lasted only ten games, and many teams will most likely be wanting his services.

The 30-year-old had a slow year in terms of interceptions this past year, but the rest of his numbers looked solid. He finished the year with a career-high 122 total tackles, and 80 of those were solo tackles, which was also a career-high.

Even though he is aging, Byard still provides a good balance of pass coverage and good tackling ability, which is something that any team could use especially the Rams.

He turns 31 years old this August but could provide what the Rams need to win right now.

If the team were to sign a player like Byard, he would provide a veteran presence to a very young Rams defense alongside Aaron Donald. He would also provide that same presence to the secondary specifically.

Whether the Rams decide to sign a free agent like Byard in the offseason or draft secondary help in the upcoming NFL Draft, it is an area that needs to be addressed if the team wants to contend next season.
