Cowboys to work out former Raiders, Steelers WR who hasn't played since 2018

Former Oakland Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant was officially reinstated by the NFL over the weekend and is getting his first big-time workout on Tuesday.

Bryant was selected by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft and finished second on the team with what is still a career-high eight touchdown receptions. Bryant's eight scores came despite playing in only 10 games and ranking fifth in targets (48), receptions (26) and receiving yards (549).

He served a four-game suspension in 2015 for a substance abuse policy violation but still posted arguably his best numbers in 11 games (making five starts). Bryant finished that season with career bests in targets (92), receptions (50) and receiving yards (765), while adding six touchdown receptions and five carries for 37 yards and a score on the ground as well.

The Clemson product finished second on the team only behind All-Pro Antonio Brown in targets, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.

Bryant was suspended for the entire 2016 campaign for another violation and after a solid 2017 season with Pittsburgh, was traded to Oakland in 2018.

He played eight games with the Raiders before being suspended indefinitely due to another violation of the substance-abuse policy.

Bryant has bounced around from team to team in the CFL since 2021 and more recently, played with the Vegas Vipers of the XFL. He'll turn 32 in December.

If Bryant can show that he still has something left in the tank, another downfield threat for Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott would be welcomed.

Dallas ranks third in the NFL in offense (27.5 points per game) but most of the aerial production has come from wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. The Oklahoma product leads the team by a wide margin in targets (72), receptions (57) and receiving yards (824).

Second-year tight end Jake Ferguson has come on strong in recent weeks and is second behind Lamb in targets (43), receptions (32) and receiving yards (328), while matching him for the team lead in touchdown receptions (three).
