Detroit Lions Interested In Former 1,000-Yard Receiver

The Detroit Lions are in need of another wide receiver after losing Josh Reynolds to free agency, and according to Mark Kaboly of The Athletic, they have expressed interest in Tyler Boyd.

Boyd is probably the best wide out remaining on the free-agent market, and surprisingly, he is still unsigned.

The 29-year-old is coming off of a 2023 campaign with the Cincinnati Bengals in which he played every game and logged 67 catches for 667 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

Boyd, who played his collegiate football at the University of Pittsburgh, was selected by the Bengals in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

After a couple of rather uneventful seasons to begin his career, Boyd broke out in 2018, catching 76 passes for 1,028 yards and seven touchdowns. He then had another very strong campaign in 2019, hauling in 90 receptions for 1,046 yards and five scores.

Boyd has not reached 1,000 yards since, but he has hit the 800-yard mark twice, most recently doing so in 2021 when he registered 828 yards.

It should also be noted that Boyd has been the Bengals’ No. 3 receiver behind Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins for the last three years, so the numbers he has been posting are actually pretty impressive.

Boyd probably is no longer a 1,000-yard receiver at this stage of his career, but there is no question that he can represent a very viable option for any team’s aerial attack.

Like the Lions.

After losing Reynolds, Detroit has questionable depth behind Amon-Ra St. Brown. Currently, the Lions seem to be setting their sights on Jameson Williams to fill the No. 2 role, but he has recorded just 25 catches in 18 games over his first two seasons due to injuries and a gambling suspension.

Landing Boyd would go a long way in helping Jared Goff in the Lions’ passing game.
