Dez Bryant takes brutal shot at Jason Garrett amid Cowboys blowout

Dez Bryant is taking shots at his former head coach, Jason Garrett, after seeing how dominant the Dallas Cowboys were on Sunday Night Football. He didn’t pull any punches, either.

Sunday evening, Dallas poured it on thick in the season opener against the New York Giants. Bryant, a former star wide receiver for the Cowboys, was taking notice.

And while giving a ton of praise to head coach Mike McCarthy, he also took major shots at Garrett.

“Take notes Jason Garrett,” Bryant wrote. “Coach McCarthy treat his players like Grown Men. I would have hated if you had the opportunity to coach a player like Micah Parsons or Trevon Diggs. This football. F--- a good guy. Where the dogs at? McCarthy got em.”

Bryant deleted the tweet shortly after hitting send.

Bryant was a member of the Cowboys from 2010-17. Garrett served as the team’s head coach from 2011-19. Bryant was a three-time Pro Bowler over the course of his nine-year career in the NFL, all selections coming when he was in Dallas.

The Cowboys were absolutely dominant in a 40-0 win over the Giants to start the season. It was an incredible performance, one that obviously caught the attention of Bryant.

It impressed the former wide receiver. And, unfortunately, his former head coach caught some strays because of it.

Jason Garrett’s run as Cowboys head coach

Garrett took over in Dallas as the interim head coach in 2010, posting a 5-3 record at the mid-season point. In his first three full seasons at the helm, the Cowboys failed to reach the postseason, finishing with 8-8 records each year.

After that, Dallas reached the NFC Divisional Game three times over the next five seasons, hitting double-digit win totals each year. But that was as far as the team ever got, despite having plenty of talent.

That’s probably where Bryant’s frustrations stemmed from.

Dallas moved on from Garrett following the 2019 season, when the team finished with an 8-8 record. He ended his tenure with an 85-67 record and a 2-3 mark in the playoffs.

Bryant was one of the most dominant receivers in the NFL while on Garrett’s Cowboys teams. In his eight years with the team, he totaled 531 catches for 7,459 yards and 73 touchdowns.
