Dolphins place RB Matt Breida on reserve/COVID-19 list

Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores wouldn't say on Friday if rookie Tua Tagovailoa or veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick will start at quarterback for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Flores probably couldn't name his first-choice running back for the contest, either.

The Dolphins confirmed that they've placed Matt Breida on the reserve/COVID-19 list shortly after news went public that the running back missed Friday's practice due to an undisclosed illness.

As Cameron Wolfe of ESPN noted, this development likely leaves the Dolphins without Breida, Salvon Ahmed (shoulder), and DeAndre Washington (hamstring) throughout the weekend.

Myles Gaskin went on injured reserve with an MCL sprain roughly a month ago and is eligible to return, but his status for Sunday likely won't be known until Saturday afternoon. Gaskin hasn't played since the 28-17 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Nov. 1, but he still leads the Dolphins with 387 rushing yards and 100 carries. The second-year pro has also contributed two rushing touchdowns and 30 catches for 198 receiving yards.

Patrick Laird begins Friday night as Miami's lone healthy ball-carrier. Laird has notched 27 yards on four carries this season.

Tagovailoa, meanwhile, is carrying a left-thumb injury into the Bengals game. Fitzpatrick will start under center for the second straight week if Flores sits his first-year signal-caller once again.
