‘Dynasty’ director explains why Tom Brady didn't speak during Aaron Hernandez episode

Episode six of 'The Dynasty: New England Patriots'  was a tough one for viewers to watch as it detailed Aaron Hernandez's time with the team. And with that, it also covered his arrest after the tight end was charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd.

But there was one notable absence during the episode. 

Tom Brady, who played with Hernandez in New England, did not speak during the 30 minutes episode. And in an interview with MassLive's Karen Guregian and Chris Mason, Matthew Hamachek, director of “The Dynasty,”explained exactly why the quarterback wasn't shown. 

“I didn’t ask him about it,” Hamachek told MassLive. “Part of it is, you’ve got three hours with people, and you have to pick and choose where you’re going to focus your questions on and I did not ask Tom Brady about (Hernandez).

“You have to make a you have to make a choice every time you’re interviewing somebody, like, what are you going to ask?,” he added. “And so if I had to make the choice between asking him about Aaron Hernandez, or asking him about the Deflategate, I was going to lean toward Deflategate. I thought that was the thing that he needed to have a chance to respond to because obviously that is about him.”

During the episode, it was Robert Kraft, Deion Branch, and Brandon Lloyd who spoke the most about their time with Hernandez. 

Lloyd specifically detailed one moment during practice where Brady and Hernandez got into it. 

"I remember there was one particular time we were out there doing a walkthrough with Tom. Aaron’s out there in flip flops going through the drills laughing, flipping the ball around, calling Bill Belichick, ‘Daddy,’ Lloyd said. "Tom’s like, ‘Get the f*** out of here. What the f*** are you doing? Get the f*** off the field.’ That got a rise out of Aaron... Stormed off the field. And oftentimes that didn’t elicit any response out of Bill."

But, it was truly Kraft who got the most candid about Hernandez's time with the team, taking a moment at the end of the episode to apologize. 

“When we bought the team, I said that we could make a difference in our community and make things better. We didn’t in this case. There are parents who wake up every day without their sons and a young daughter without her father," Kraft said. "We messed up in this one and for those of you who feel pain, I apologize.”
