ESPN analyst drops wild Russell Wilson take

Analyst and former NFL quarterback Tim Hasselbeck gave a surprising take on Denver Broncos signal-caller Russell Wilson during ESPN's "Get Up."

Wilson's given no indication that he plans to retire, and while he isn't likely to be suiting up in Denver next season, it'd be a shock if he doesn't land on a roster this offseason.

The one-time Super Bowl champion is due $39M guaranteed in 2024 and many experts have said that they expect the Broncos to cut him before the NFL league year becomes official. If Wilson isn't traded or cut before March 5, a $37M 2025 injury guarantee goes into effect.

While he showed little evidence of reverting back to his days as a star with the Seattle Seahawks, Wilson was much better in 2023 than he was in his debut campaign in Denver.

His 66.4% completion percentage was his best mark since 2020 and the third highest of his career, his 26 touchdown passes were his most since 2020 and he had just eight interceptions. Wilson's 98.0 passer rating was significantly better than last season's 84.4 mark and he was tied for first in the NFL with his four fourth-quarter comebacks.

The Broncos offense was only 19th in scoring though (21.0 points per game), and the team went just 7-8 in his 15 starts.

Still, even at 35 years old, Wilson showed enough in 2023 to warrant at least one more season as an NFL starter.
