First Week 'Big' for New Detroit Lions Wideout Donovan Peoples-Jones

The first week acclimating to the Detroit Lions offensive system will be imperative for new wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones. 

Acquired at the trade deadline, the former Cleveland Browns wideout has an opportunity to have an immediate in Detroit's offense. 

Second-year wideout Jameson Williams has only tallied six receptions for 71 yards in four appearances this season. 

Dan Campbell indicated in his first media session following the bye week the fourth-year wideout will spend his week getting up to speed on the playbook and evaluating his readiness to immediately step in and contribute.

"We'll get him up to speed with the playbook here, make sure he's good and healthy and just see where he is. Certainly, we acquired him because we think he can help us, but I also want to make sure he's ready, mentally and physically, he's 100% ready before we do that," Campbell said. "This week will be big for him. He was out there today, and tomorrow, we'll see where it's at, just kind of take it day-to-day."

General manager Brad Holmes expressed to reporters after announcing the acquisition that Peoples-Jones size was appealing along with his versatility. 

"He brings versatility. He's a big guy, he's got good contested catch skills, he can play outside, he can play inside. He's a very smart player, he's been very, very durable. He fits everything that we're about," Holmes said. "So, I think he'll fit in just fine. He's another flavor that we're adding to our mix. So, it's a lot of things that he can do for us."

Since 2020, the former sixth-round pick has recorded 1,837 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. 

Last season, the talented wideout posted 61 receptions for 839 yards and three touchdowns, which were career highs. 

Unfortunately, Peoples-Jones' production has dipped this season, as he has only recorded eight catches for 97 yards in seven appearances. 

Practice squad signing

The Lions announced Monday that they re-signed running back Devine Ozigbo to the practice squad. 

He was released from the active roster Thursday when the team elevated linebacker Trevor Nowaske from the practice squad.
