Former Wisconsin Badgers offensive lineman Joe Tippmann just wrapped up his first season in the NFL with the New York Jets after being drafted in the second round in 2023.

The former Badgers star was a key part of the Jets offensive line, making appearances at both guard and center in his first season. Although the Jets underperformed this year, Tippman was still recognized for his strong play in his first year in the pros.

The Pro Football Writers of America released their All-Rookie team for the 2023 season, and Tippmann was among those named.

Former Wisconsin Badgers OL Joe Tippmann Earns All-Rookie Honors

Tippmann spent four seasons at Wisconsin, redshirting in 2019 before appearing in two games during the 2020 season. After that, Tippmann became a stalwart for the Badgers in the trenches, playing 11 games with ten starts in 2021 and starting all 12 games at center in 2022. He was also named an All-Big Ten honorable mention in his last two seasons with the program.

Tippmann made 14 starts at center and four at guard in his rookie campaign. The Jets had a revolving door at quarterback last season, as the former Badger snapped to Zach Wilson, Trevor Siemian, and Tim Boyle last year.

The Fort Wayne, Indiana native notched a Pro Football Focus grade of 61.0 last season — the highest among rookie centers — while allowing three sacks and 20 pressures.

The storied tradition of standout Wisconsin Badgers offensive linemen looks to be going strong after a strong rookie season from Joe Tippmann. It will be interesting to see how he fares as his career chugs along.
