Giants set to sign cornerback to three-year deal

The New York Giants are adding a cornerback

The New York Giants are considering the possibility of losing defensive back Julian Love this offseason. They are trying this week to add depth to the secondary for the upcoming season. The Giants recently added linebacker Bobby Okereke and defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches this past week to help fortify the defense. Now they’ll take a chance on an undrafted free agent at cornerback.

According to Aaron Wilson with KPRC, the Giants are signing Leonard Johnson to a three-year deal. Johnson is a former Duke standout who injured himself while training ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Johnson played in four seasons at Duke. He recorded 165 tackles, six interceptions, 24 passes defended, and three forced fumbles in college. NFL Draft Buzz ranked him as the 129th-best cornerback and projected him to be an undrafted free agent before the 2022 draft.

We’ll see if Johnson can progress into a contributor for the Giants on special teams or the defense. But it appears he impressed during his recent workout for the Giants to sign him for three years.
