Hall of Famer details reason for sticking with Jets as Super Bowl pick after Aaron Rodgers injury

Following the brutal news that Aaron Rodgers had suffered a torn Achilles and would miss the remainder of the 2023 NFL season, New York Jets fans were left rightfully crushed. A season in which the team had legitimate Super Bowl upside had seemingly fallen apart in less than one full drive.

After the Jets leaned heavily on their talented defense and playmakers spread across the offensive side of the ball, followed by a stellar punt return touchdown, to gut out a Week 1 victory over the Buffalo Bills, the conversation shifted for some. There's no question the Jets will look far different than what fans likely would have seen with Rodgers, but their talent on both sides of the ball was impressive.

Hall-of-Fame wide receiver Randy Moss apparently agrees, as he revealed on "The Rich Eisen Show," that after initially picking the Jets and Philadelphia Eagles to make the Super Bowl, he's going to stick with that pick and offered some insight into why.

"I'm gonna stick to my guns, Rich, I'm not gonna jump ship. I think that a lot of people are going to jump ship on the Jets, but hey, Zach Wilson has been in the National Football League long enough. He's had a year, he's had an offseason under Aaron Rodgers to understand what they're looking for," Moss said.

"So it's not going to look like Aaron Rodgers, but he can still go in and lead the team and put them in position like he did the other night."

It's a pretty strong take from Moss, all things considered. You'd be hard-pressed to find many people who wouldn't take the chance to switch their Super Bowl pick off the Jets following the Rodgers injury.

All that said, there seems to be plenty of faith in Wilson to lead the way, especially from head coach Robert Saleh, but if the defense can play anywhere close to the level it did in Week 1, there may be reason to still buy stock in the Jets to at least make some noise in the postseason.
