How 49ers teammates reacted to news of record-setting Nick Bosa deal

Warner was excited. Bosa's other teammates shared in that excitement.

"[I was] ecstatic, actually," Warner told reporters before Wednesday's practice. "You should have seen me screaming earlier. ... I was getting my lunch, and [defensive coordinator Steve] Wilks, walking down the hall, he grabs me. He was like, 'Bosa's here.' I was like, 'Wow.' I couldn't believe it. But hey, he's here."

"Here," meaning the defensive end has agreed to a new deal. Bosa isn't actually in the building yet, but the 49ers' head coach expects that to change soon.

"So, obviously pumped up about it, and [I will] try to hit him up after this [press conference] and figure it out, but I know he's trying to get here as fast as possible," Kyle Shanahan said.

Javon Hargrave, the 49ers' prized free-agent acquisition from the Philadelphia Eagles, shared what it was like to learn the news.

"I was really just walking in here, and Fred came yelling," Hargrave said.

A lot of joyous yelling and chatter ensued.

"Everybody looking at their phones and talking about it," Hargrave continued.

The defensive tackle is excited to start working with his highly-paid teammate. San Francisco is just days away from its season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"I mean, it's going to be very exciting," Hargrave said. "It's going to help everybody around us to have our best player back. So we're just ready to get to work now."

One offensive veteran player admitted that Bosa's absence was a bit of a distraction for the team.

"I'd be lying to say it wasn't because he's such a huge contributor to what we do as a defense and how we play," tackle Trent Williams said. "So, it's not like anybody else going down. Defensive Player of the Year, you miss people like that. I know it's the next-man-up league, but a lot of that goes out the window when you're talking about a player like that."

As for the big payday, Williams is happy for his teammate and friend, saying, "Excited to see our boy get paid like he should."
