Inside Undrafted Titans Safety Tyreque Jones

NASHVILLE - Among the current crop of undrafted rookie free agents added to the roster of the Tennessee Titans, former Boise State safety Tyreque Jones is the next player we are taking a look at as he hopes to find a way to earn a role either on the 53-man roster, or the practice squad in 2023. 

A long corner, Jones is 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds, with a rare wingspan (33 1/4) for a safety; he is an inside-the-box safety prospect who brings physicality and good speed to the defense's back end but struggles at times in man coverage. 

A willing tackler, unafraid of contact or big hits, and to take on blockers. He can be effective in man coverage against tight ends between the hashes despite some coverage limitations when he is in a backpedal.    

His athletic testing numbers, while not alarming, don't jump off the page. His forty time at the combine was 4.52, while his vertical and broad jump measured 32" and 9'11", respectively. 

Jones is a bit of a rarity these days, having spent his entire college career with the Broncos. During his six-year Brocos career, he had 156 career tackles, 14 passes defended, and four interceptions while playing both safety and nickel, showing something Titans head coach Mike Vrabel likes, versatility.  

Kevin Byard leads the Titans secondary, along with Amani Hooker, as the team's starters, with Shyheim Carter and Mike Brown behind them on the roster. 

While nothing is given, Jones can compete for a place on this roster or a slot on the practice squad.  

Entering the draft, Jones carried a seventh-round grade by several services but went undrafted.
