Jaguars vs. Chiefs: JaMycal Hasty Leads Inactives
USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars have just four inactives ahead of their Sunday tilt with the Kansas City Chiefs.

With the Jaguars placing cornerback Gregory Junior on injured reserve this week, and with center Luke Fortner (ankle) and right guard Brandon Scherff (ankle) set to play through injuries, the Jaguars inactive are as follows:

  • RB JaMycal Hasty
  • WR Parker Washington
  • WR Elijah Cooks
  • DB Antonio Johnson

Johnson is missing his second game in a row with a hamstring injury, while Hasty, Washington and Cooks are inactive.

The biggest injury storyline for the Jaguars this week centered around the health of Fortner and Scherff, though it appears the duo will be set to make their 21st consecutive start alongside each other.

“I think everybody heals differently, pain tolerance is different for everybody. He played at Iowa, tough player. It just goes to show the type of person that he is and how important his teammates are and this team and trying to be available for every game," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said about Scherff.

As for the Chiefs, tight end Travis Kelce is officially making his 2023 debut after a knee injury kept him out of last week's game.

“It is different, I think that’s the one thing that stood out watching last week’s game, is just having that trust factor with the top receiver and tight end and Travis [Travis Kelce]. Just knowing where he is, they spent so much time together, Patrick [Mahomes] knows exactly where he’s going to be, when he’s going to be there," Pederson said.

"They do a great job of going off schedule, I think that’s the element that they possibly missed last week of the off-schedule plays and just knowing where Travis is going to be. That’s the hard thing, that got us last year in the redzone a couple of times. Just knowing and understanding where 87 is going to be, and then when Patrick does move and goes off schedule, you’ve got to be on point. This is where discipline and understanding scramble rules and all that comes into play for us as a defense.”
