Jets WR Garrett Wilson trying to stay positive amid team's offensive woes

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson is trying to stay positive amid the club's offensive struggles and ahead of the upcoming "Sunday Night Football" game at the 4-5 Las Vegas Raiders.

"Make sure you’re doing your job at a high level because you only can control what you can control, and that’s the mindset we try and take," Wilson said after Friday's practice, per Neil Best of Newsday. "We all want to be great. As a team, as individuals, we want to be great, and that’s where you see the frustration come from."

As a rookie, Wilson didn't hold back last November while criticizing New York's passing attack as quarterback Zach Wilson repeatedly let teammates down with his play. Zach Wilson acknowledged earlier this week that he and others in the locker room are "even more frustrated" than fans about the fact that, according to ESPN stats, the 4-4 Jets enter the weekend ranked 31st in the league with an average of 272.9 offensive yards per game, and Garrett Wilson admitted Friday that a monster performance in Vegas would "relieve myself of some of the stress that’s come with this season."

Per ESPN, Garrett Wilson leads the Jets with 46 receptions, 81 targets, 549 receiving yards and just two touchdown catches on the campaign. He likely believes he'd have better numbers through the second Friday of November had Aaron Rodgers not suffered a torn Achilles in the regular season opener.

Former Jets signal-caller and current "The NFL Today" analyst Boomer Esiason said earlier this week that "it’s almost as if the other 10 guys in the huddle...all have lost their confidence" in Zach Wilson. However, Garrett Wilson remained upbeat while speaking about a potential breakout game at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.

"We feel like there’s momentum that would come with that," he explained. "We need every bit of that right now."

If the Jets don't get that momentum, head coach Robert Saleh may have to turn to primary backup quarterback Tim Boyle or practice squad option Trevor Siemian to lead the offense as soon as Monday.
