Jonathan Gannon comments on Cardinals blow lead in 2nd half

Entering halftime, the Cardinals were up 20-0 against the Giants, and it sure seemed like this trend would continue as the game went on.

However, a couple of three-and-outs offensively and a horrible defensive performance in the second half ultimately led to a 21-point blown lead.

The Cardinals have been outscored 27-0 in the fourth quarter through two games this season.

After the game, Cardinals HC Jonathan Gannon commented on what went wrong:

Notably, Jonathan Gannon took responsibility for his team’s lackluster performance down the stretch: “We gotta coach better… We’ve gotta do a better job to help our guys out.”

Gannon also admitted that stamina affected the defense late in the game as their offense continued to have quick possessions.

However, he refused to criticize Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzings’ calls in the second half, stating, “I thought Drew called an excellent game.”

Lastly, Gannon was quick to shut down any excuses. The Cardinals were without S. Budda Baker, which definitely could have played a role in their failure to stop Daniel Jones from converting on the deep ball.

“There are no excuses; you’ve gotta line up to play and win the game.”
