Kansas City Chiefs edge rusher Mike Danna has higher expectations for the defense in 2024 than last year
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Last season, the Kansas City Chiefs surprised everyone when their defense was one of the top three units in the league, and their offense was below average. This was shocking because, during the Dynasty, the Chiefs were known to have some of the greatest offenses we have ever seen. Even in a down year in 2022-23, the Chiefs still finished with the best offense in the league scoring-wise, without Tyreek Hill.

The defense won many games last year. Sure, you would love for the offense to get fixed, and I'm sure at times it will look like it is fixed, but the defense can still get better. And that's scary if you're on a team that plays the Chiefs in 2024.

The players know it won't be pretty for opponents in 2024. They are coming back for more.

"Oh man," Danna said to reporters on Wednesday. "Last year, we were relentless. But, this year, I imagine it being 10 times more. There are dudes that are hungrier now than they were last year. I know myself; I still feel like I have a chip on my shoulder. I have something to prove out there. There is no settling down on this end. We have something to prove. We have something to display every time we go against someone. I can't wait to get back with them."

The Chiefs were second allowed in points per game last season at 17, just behind the Baltimore Ravens, and allowed the fourth least amount of passing yards in the league. They were third in sacks per game with three. A big reason was the pass rush, which included Danna.

Bringing Danna back, who is obviously a huge part of this defense, will be huge. Now they won't have to spend an early pick on an edge rusher and can use that elsewhere, like offensive tackle, wide receiver, or even defensive tackle. The defense should only get better - Danna knows it, too.
