Larry Fitzgerald to Green Bay might just be crazy enough to work

The Green Bay Packers are in need of all the help that they can find at receiver. The team has capable veterans in Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, and Sammy Watkins. They also drafted three new rookies in Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Samori Toure. The offense is also waiting for the emergence of second-year receiver Amari Rodgers.

But this is a very unique core. There is no All-Pro receiver among them quite yet. As a matter of fact, their All-Pro receiver in Davante Adams was traded to Las Vegas this offseason and speedster Marquez Valdes-Scantling signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers could use one more experienced veteran to help bring this core forward. Yes, Larry Fitzgerald could be an option. An unlikely option, but an option nevertheless.

The longtime Arizona Cardinal has been in retirement for the last year-and-a-half. He will be an undisputed, first-ballot Hall of Famer eventually. He holds a load of NFL records, which include: most 90+ reception seasons in league history (8), most postseason games with 150+ yards receiving (3), youngest player to record 1,000 career receptions (32 years, 97 days) and so much more. He is second all-time in career receptions (1,432), second all-time in career receiving yards (17,083) and sixth all-time in touchdown receptions (120). His 2008 postseason run was one of the great stretches in NFL history. He set records in receptions (30), yards (546), and touchdowns (7). He is an 11-time Pro Bowl selection and a member of the NFL's 100th Anniversary team. He caught passes from 16 different quarterbacks in his time in the desert.

Now, imagine if he had someone like Aaron Rodgers throwing him the football. Speaking of Green Bay's quarterback, Rodgers and Fitzgerald have struck up a great friendship over the last few years. The duo traveled to Africa in 2018 to help people struggling with hearing loss. They are great friends off the field who do great things.

Fitzgerald is 38 years of age. He doesn't necessarily have the same speed that he had when he was younger, but he has stayed in shape. The former Pittsburgh Panther has done everything a player can do in the league. But, he is still missing a ring. The Green Bay Packers are an elite team. Head coach Matt LaFleur has led this team to a league-best 39 wins over the last three seasons. The offense is unique, but very dangerous regardless of who is on the field. They have a very talented defense. The special teams should also be much-improved in 2022. The team also has roughly $17M in cap space. "Larry Legend" would not need to play every single down, although that is not impossible. Fitzgerald has missed just 10 games in 17 seasons. He has started in 261 of 263 career games. He would provide the Packers with another great teammate and leader. He is extremely sure-handed (has more tackles than drops in his whole career) and would provide Rodgers with a key option on important downs. Oh, he would also be used to the cold weather because he grew up in Minnesota.

In these final years of the Aaron Rodgers era in Green Bay, why not bring in another hungry all-time great to help the team bring the Lombardi Trophy home? A one-year deal would be perfect.
