Detroit Lions defensive end Michael Brockers woke up with Good Morning Football on Wednesday, July 20th. With only five pressures and one sack in 2021, Brockers didn’t make the largest impact in his tenth NFL season. He has a young team around him, and knows his experience is key for the future success of this team and building the proper Lions culture.

Brockers’ New Role

The Lions culture was the main discussion during the interview. Being a veteran player, Brockers wants mainly to impact the Lions culture. When asked where he fits, he said,

“Being here definitely helped rekindle that fire for me this past year.” Then adding, “Having a young group of guys that don’t know what it feels like to win and be successful allows me to share my experience.”

Brockers knows his experience in the league is pivotal to the growth of younger players in Detroit. It is welcome to see him take on this responsibility with a positive outlook. He claims, “My biggest focus is how I lead, how I go about my day, in and out of the facility.’ He also claimed, “My thing is being a great mentor.” He is showing young Lions how a NFL player should act, contributing to the hard-work mentality the Lions want to implement.

Brockers and Hutchinson

Of course, One of the most important parts of the Lions future is Aidan Hutchinson. Brockers told the “GMFB” crew Hutchinson is a perfect fit for the culture. He seems to have adjusted well to the NFL level.

“He’s taken it all in stride. Being a first round pick has a lot of stress that comes with it…but he is going about it the right way and taking things one day at a time.” Brockers then said, “He’s trying to be a sponge and fill himself with as much knowledge as possible, so when those Sundays come he will be ready to go. I’m really impressed with his professionalism and how he goes about his daily work. As a rookie, he is really in tune to what his job is.”

Brockers as the Key for Lions Culture

Brockers adds to the Lions culture perfectly. He is a head-down, hard-working player who wants to continue learning the game. The Lions absolutely need more guys like this on the roster. Making sure the rookies echo these values is extremely important for the Lions culture.

Brockers has a ton of influence on young defensive players like Hutchinson, Kerby Joseph, and Josh Paschal. Showing them how to conduct themselves on and off the field will further their development, building a strong foundation for the Lions. Influence builds culture and culture builds winning teams. Brockers is sure to bring success to Detroit if he continues his positive influence on the team. The next step is the hardest part, putting it together on field for a winning season.
