Mike Danna's reasoning for returning to the Chiefs shows exactly why Kansas City is a free-agent destination
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs are a place where other players want to play. No, they do not have the same appeal as the Miami Dolphins when it comes to location and weather. No, they do not have the same appeal as teams that majorly overpay in free agency, and they don't have the appeal of being in a big market.

However, they have three to four things that other teams do not have. They have Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, and Steve Spagnuolo, and they are a dynasty. All of those are enough to make any player want to play in Kansas City, even if they have to play in some of the coldest games in the NFL's history.

When the Chiefs re-signed defensive end Mike Danna, he told everyone that there was only one big reason he came back. Danna kept it real, as he always does. And it makes sense. From the sounds of it, he was never going anywhere.

"I kind of prioritize winning," Mike Danna said Wednesday morning. "The family I have built out here, and the brotherhood, just like being here is just like, I look forward to going to work every day. When you have that feeling, you don't really want to let it go. There is always elsewhere, but I have a lot invested here. A lot of work, a lot of grinds, a lot of sweat and tears. Why not go for a three-peat? I prioritize winning, and there is no other organization like this right now. It feels good to be back."

The Chiefs didn't really make any crazy moves from the outside looking in. Mostly, they just brought back players from last season that needed to be brought back. Of course, the Hollywood Brown signing was huge, but other than that, it was all stuff done in-house.

The Danna signing was especially big because I truly believe that it would have been so much harder to go for the three-peat like he was talking about without him. The Chiefs defensive end room before he was re-signed was pretty bleak. Now, it looks like one that could be pretty good. However, there is a reason Brown wanted to come back, and there is a reason guys are always rumored to have interest in joining the Chiefs, just like Odell Beckham Jr. and DeAndre Hopkins did last season.

Sometimes, that just doesn't work out because of the Chiefs' money situation. This Danna signing is going to end up being one of the most important ones from this offseason. And, even better, he couldn't be happier that he is back.
