New Cowboys WR has high praise for QB Dak Prescott

Dak Prescott isn't in the same realm as Tom Brady, nor is virtually any other current NFL quarterback, with the exception of one who is quickly on the rise in Patrick Mahomes. But that doesn't necessarily mean there aren't comparable traits in one player's play in comparison to arguably the greatest quarterback in NFL history.

With Cowboys' training camp officially underway, one name getting plenty of attention is offseason acquisition, wide receiver Brandin Cooks. Dallas brought Cooks in via trade with the Houston Texans, and he's set to immediately slot in with CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup to round out an intriguing trio of primary wideouts.

While speaking with the media this week, The Athletic's Jon Machota revealed an interesting answer when Cooks was asked to compare playing with Prescott to his other former quarterbacks, such as Brady and Drew Brees.

“I don’t get into comparing, but the one thing I see about Dak is the way he’s able to lead. Leading, you just can’t fake it. And the way that Dak leads, so authentic, you’ll follow that man anywhere. That alone is the No. 1 key in my opinion that you have to have in a quarterback, and he has that and more," Cooks responded.

Cooks, who's played with a number of quarterbacks in his career, was one of Brady's primary pass-catchers in New England back in 2017. He caught 65 passes for 1,082 yards and seven touchdowns that year while posting a career-best yards-per-reception at 16.6.

The evaluation of Prescott is a good one from Cooks, and it's one that's been echoed often about the quarterback. You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't respect Prescott's ability as a leader. This duo specifically could be in for a big season, especially with the impressive breakout Lamb has had since his rookie season. Lamb's ability to do virtually anything for the offense will open things up for Cooks, while Cooks himself is an excellent route runner and has blazing speed that should stretch the field for the entire offense.
