One-time NFL MVP makes bold Giants prediction amid awful season

One-time NFL Most Valuable Player and current "The NFL Today" analyst Boomer Esiason believes New York Giants co-owner John Mara could clean house in some way following what's become an embarrassing season for the franchise. 

"People will end up losing jobs over there with the Giants," Esiason directly said during Monday's edition of the WFAN "Boomer and Gio" program, per Ryan Chichester of Audacy. "I don’t know who will, but somebody will. Somebody is going to have to pay for this. Players are gonna be shipped out of here. Other players will be brought in…do you trust the [general manager]? Do you trust the head coach? All of these questions will have to be asked and answered over the last eight weeks of the NFL season."

It was reported that New York general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll are both "safe" in their jobs and will "be able to make the call on the future of the organization this offseason." This report came hours after the Giants suffered a humiliating 49-17 loss at the division-rival Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. However, such a story doesn't take into account just how bad things could get for a club that celebrated a road playoff victory back in January. 

The 2-8 Giants aren't just dropping four out of every five games this fall. They've already endured six double-digit defeats, were outscored 89-17 across two matchups versus Dallas and are responsible for a league-worst minus-148 point differential. According to ESPN stats, the Giants went into Monday night ranked last in the NFL with an average of 259.2 offensive yards per game and a pitiful 11.8 points per contest. 

Along with being non-competitive for the majority of the season, Giants players have feuded with fans, coaches, media members and each other. As much as some supporters may want Big Blue to "tank" so the club can draft either USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams or North Carolina Tar Heels signal-caller Drake Maye next spring, Esiason hinted a stretch that began with an inexcusable 13-10 overtime loss to the New York Jets on Oct. 29 has the seats occupied by Schoen and Daboll at least somewhat warm. 

"This is going to be a long two months for the Giants, their fans, the front office, the coaching staff, and their players," Esiason added. "I would say the last three weeks are enough for people to lose jobs."

As of Monday evening, oddschecker listed the Giants as 10-point underdogs for this coming Sunday's clash at the 4-6 Washington Commanders. Logic and history suggest Mara doesn't love that sportsbooks think his team will again get blown out by an NFC East foe.
