Packers RB Aaron Jones on Jordan Love: 'I feel like he’ll definitely be that guy when A-Rod’s gone'

The Green Bay Packers drafted running back Aaron Jones in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He's been in Green Bay ever since and has become one of the most dynamic running backs in football.

If anyone knows the ins and outs in Green Bay, and specifically of Green Bay's offense, it would be him.

Of course, the other person who would know the Packers' offense intimately is quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is currently mulling over whether or not he wants to return to the Packers for his 19th season. For Packers, for their part, have to mull over whether they want to give the four-time MVP one more shot, or move on to former first-round pick Jordan Love at signal-caller.

The future is certainly up in the air in Green Bay, but it's worth noting that Jones doesn't think there's going to be a change just yet.

“For some reason, no. I feel like he’ll be back,” Jones told Jim Rome on Super Bowl radio row on Thursday (h/t SI Fan Nation). “I don’t know. He had fun this year. As the season started getting later, we started clicking and jelling. You could tell we were taking that step and I think he sees that. I think we have all the pieces that we need, and he sees that, as well.”

Rodgers is currently trying to clear his mind in an effort to make a decision. As mentioned, Green Bay has a decision to make as well.

If Rodgers hangs 'em up or the Packers decide to trade him for a king's ransom in order to jumpstart the rebuild under Love, it's worth noting that Jones seems to have full confidence in 2020's No. 26 overall pick.

“Jordan Love is definitely ready,” Jones said. “I feel like, from the time he’s come in until now, he’s just continued to work, work, work. You could see the confidence starting to come out even more and more. He got some time to play in games this past season and you can tell he made that jump and he’s confident out there and he’s capable and he can do it at a high level. I feel like he’ll definitely be that guy when A-Rod’s gone.”

Love has made appearances in 10 games in three seasons. He was inactive for his entire rookie season, started one game in 2021 when Aaron Rodgers was out in COVID-19 protocol and got extended playing time in relief of an injured Rodgers this past season against the Super Bowl-bound Philadelphia Eagles.

Love has completed 50-of-83 career passes for 606 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions.
