Quick Injury Recovery for Jets' Second-Round Rookie

Joe Tippmann was back in action at MetLife Stadium seven days after suffering an in-game injury there.

The rookie interior offensive lineman took the second-team center reps in the New York Jets' preseason finale against the New York Giants after veteran starter Connor McGovern's day was done.

Tippmann, the No. 43 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, played both center and left guard during the August 19 exhibition against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers while banging up his knee in the process. Speaking to reporters this past Tuesday in Florham Park, Jets' third-year head coach Robert Saleh suggested that the second-round rookie could need up to two weeks to recover from the injury.

"Tippmann, he's dealing with his knee. Knock on wood, we're anticipating that he'll be available for the beginning of the season," said Saleh.

Available for Preseason Game No. 4 following a surprisingly quick recovery, Tippmann entered Saturday's contest against the Giants in the second quarter and remained at center the rest of the way.

"And, then you still have Tippmann who made a late surge, obviously," said Saleh while listing the productive pieces on the offensive line after the final summertime tune-up.

Although wearing a sleeve on his left leg, the 6-foot-6 Tippmann was already back participating in individual drills during Wednesday's open training camp practice.
