Raiders' Mark Davis describes why he chose Antonio Pierce as the interim head coach
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

On Tuesday, the Las Vegas Raiders decided it was time to go in a new direction, a new regime, if you will, again. This has happened so often in this franchise, but Mark Davis, the son of former Raiders owner Al Davis, decided it was time. He decided that he could not continue to watch what he was watching every week.

The Raiders fired Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler, along with Mick Lombardi and really anyone else who was trying to get the "Patriots way" to be the "Raiders way," and that's just not how things work.

Mark Davis named Antonio Pierce, the former Raiders' linebackers coach, as the interim head coach. After his introductory press conference, it's easy to see why that was the right move. However, why did Davis pick him?

"Seemed like a fresh approach," Davis said. "Seemed like the adjustment we need at this time. I was impressed. He understands the culture of the Raiders, and that's important to me. I felt very good about it."

Pierce definitely embodies that "Raider way," as he let everyone know during his press conference that he was "born a Raider." He has the energy that you want in a head coach and is the type of guy that players will want to play for. Not to mention, he played in the league, unlike guys like Josh McDaniels.

The Raiders have the opportunity to turn things around here. Sure, it sucks the Raiders will now have to pay two coaches who are no longer coaching for them, but if they can turn this thing around, it will be worth it.
