Rams DL Michael Brockers on reserve/COVID-19 list, out vs. Cardinals

Like many out there, the Los Angeles Rams likely can't wait to welcome 2021 and a fresh start as quickly as possible.

Three days before a crucial Sunday showdown with the Arizona Cardinals, the Rams announced that they've added defensive lineman Michael Brockers to the reserve/COVID-19 list. Reports surfaced on Wednesday that Los Angeles wide receiver Cooper Kupp tested positive for the coronavirus, and both he and Brockers will miss the Week 17 game that will guarantee a playoff berth to the winner.

Brockers will end the regular season tied for third on the Rams with five sacks. The 30-year-old has also contributed 51 total tackles.

One piece of good news for Los Angeles fans is that the Rams can back into the playoffs if the Chicago Bears fall to the Green Bay Packers. The Packers haven't yet secured the top seed in the NFC postseason bracket.

That's massive, because the Rams will be without at least Kupp, starting quarterback Jared Goff (thumb), and leading rusher Darrell Henderson (ankle). Rookie ball-carrier Cam Akers missed last Sunday's 20-9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks with a high ankle sprain and may also sit through the upcoming weekend.

Veteran Malcolm Brown, who has 399 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 98 carries this season, could serve as the first-choice back for interim starting signal-caller and former Alliance of American Football quarterback John Wolford. Wolford has never appeared in an NFL game.

Meanwhile, Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray is still recovering from a lower leg injury but told reporters on Wednesday that he's playing versus the Rams.
